Several area cross country teams competed at the Region III, Class 5A meet held at City Park in New Orleans on Friday.
The Central Lafourche boys team had the highest local team finish by placing sixth overall at the meet with 176 points. Brother Martin won the meet with 23 points, and Jesuit took second place at 75 points.
Terrebonne’s boys team placed ninth with 221 points, while Thibodaux took 10th at 247 points and H.L. Bourgeois was 12th with 364 points.
Two local boys runners finished in the Top 25 at the regional cross country meet. Thibodaux’s Luke Sweatman was 10th in the boys’ race with a time of 16 minutes, 40.57 seconds. Central Lafourche’s Gabriel Hodson placed 12th with a time of 16:45.91.
Central Lafourche’s girls cross country team finished sixth overall in the team standings. Mt. Carmel won the girls’ regional team title with 25 points, and Dominican was second at 30 points.
H.L. Bourgeois’ girls team finished seventh in the standings with 185 points.
Three area girls runners finished in the Top 25 of their race, including H.L. Bourgeois’ Chloe Kurtz (16th, 21:20.9), Central Lafourche’s Kaydi Manning (20th, 22:21.8) and Terrebonne’s Johanna Muhammad (25th, 22:41.4).
The Top 8 teams in the boys and girls team standings, along with the Top 25 individual runners, advanced to the Class 5A state cross country meet at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches on Nov. 19.
