The Houma Christian School football team went out winners in the 2019 season.
After dropping its first nine games of the campaign, the Warriors ended the regular-season with a 34-28 District 9-2A victory over Delcambre from Warrior Field in Schriever.
“It was a tough season for the kids going up to 2A (from Class 1A last year). These guys could have given up but they kept playing hard every weekend,” Warriors coach Chuck Battaglia said. “To end the season on a win is great, especially for the seniors. It’s something they will take with them for the rest of their lives. I am really proud of them. They never gave up this season, no matter what they faced.”
The Warriors (1-9 overall, 1-6 in district) led 7-0 early, but trailed 21-13 at halftime.
The game was tied at 21 at the end of the third quarter.
Westyn Spry ran for two scores and had two touchdown passes to Eyan Webre and one touchdown pass to Cameron Ringo and the Warriors picked up three first downs late to seal the win after Delcambre cut the lead to six points.
