Nicholls football drop six spots to No. 15 in both major polls this week after losing 17-0 at Sam Houston State on Saturday.

It ties for the lowest ranking of the season, matching the No. 15 slotting in the coaches poll after losing to Texas State.

However, Nicholls still managed to stay at No. 12 in the other poll at the time, making this the lowest combined ranking of the season.

The previously No. 9 Colonels (4-3 overall, 3-1 in the SLC) suffered their first shutout loss against an FCS opponent since 2012, and as such, fell below No. 10 Central Arkansas as the top-ranked program in the Southland Conference.

On the opposite end of the defeat is Sam Houston who jumped back into the top 25 with the win to No. 21 in the FCS STATS media poll and No. 25 in the coaches poll.

Incarnate Word, who Nicholls will face in two weeks, moved up to No. 20 in the coaches poll and received votes in the media poll.

The Top 3 of North Dakota State, James Madison and South Dakota State remained steady this week.

In the media poll, the Bison received 156 of the 159 first place votes.

James Madison received the other three. NDSU took all first-place votes in the coaches poll.
