There was much offense and little defense Friday night as the Woodville Panthers raced to a 71-56 victory over Coosa Christian in Class 1A, Region 7 play.

Woodville moved to 4-4 overall and 3-2 in the region. Coosa is 1-7, 1-4.

The Panthers’ Jackson Peek started the scoring parade with a 3-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Coosa’s Dartavious Britton then returned the kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown.

Peek ran 3 yards for another touchdown, covered an onside kick and Da’vion Johnson ran 3 yards to give the visitors a 21-7 lead at the break.

Trevor Horne passed 74 yards to Evan Delp for a Coosa touchdown, then Johnson and Britton traded kickoff returns of 80 and 85 yards, respectively, as Woodville led 28-20.

Peek ran 8 and 5 yards for touchdowns, then after another onside kick passed 37 yards for a touchdown to Johnson. However, Horne found Delp for a 54-yard touchdown pass with a second left to cut the halftime score to 50-26.

Coosa covered an onside kick to start the second half and Horne passed 38 yards to Delp for a touchdown. Peek ran 26 yards for a Woodville score, then Horne again found Delp for 49 yards, and after another onside kick Horne connected on a 15-yard pass to Carston Lipscomb; Coosa’s third consecutive two-point conversion brought the Conquerors within a point at 57-56.

But the Panthers got their final touchdowns on runs of 17 and 12 yards.

Coosa visits Valley Head for a region game next week.
