PENSACOLA — Arnold’s first foray into District 1-5A competition Friday night couldn’t have gone much worse, as the Marlins were walloped by West Florida 55-14.

It was the first win of the season for the Jaguars (1-3), while the loss dropped the Marlins to 1-3 overall.

Arnold will be off next week before returning to action Sept. 27 to host Bay High at Gavlak Stadium.

West Florida will also have a bye before jumping back into district play with a trip to Fort Walton Beach to take on Choctawhatchee.

Blountstown crushes Liberty

BLOUNTSTOWN — Blountstown continued its dominant start to the season with a 57-0 thrashing of Liberty County.

The Tigers scored 35 points in the first quarter en route to their third straight win to start the season.

Blountstown has now outscored its first three opponents this season – which includes 5A Arnold and 4A Marianna – by a combined score of 137-26.

Treven Smith had four touchdowns for the Tigers on just four touches, catching two passes for 62 yards and two scores, returning a punt for a 50-yard touchdown, and taking an interception back 100 yards to the end zone.

Kaiden Hatchett gave Blountstown another special teams touchdown with an 89-yard kickoff return for a score.

Logan Pumphrey passed for two touchdowns and Alex Valdez threw for one and rushed for another. Cane Miller added a rushing touchdown as well.

The Blountstown defense limited Liberty County to 171 yards and forced four turnovers.

Vernon routs Chipley

VERNON — The Yellowjackets (3-1) got 145 rushing yards and two touchdowns along with a 22-yard passing touchdown from K’wan Powell in a 46-8 home win over Chipley (0-4).

Dyvion Bush completed 5 of 5 passes for 172 yards and a touchdown, with Darryl Powell catching two passes for 50 yard and grabbing an interception on defense.

Wayne Potter also rushed for 87 yards and two touchdowns.

Vernon is off next week before going on the road Sept. 27 against Bozeman. Chipley is at Blountstown next Friday.

Graceville shuts out Holmes County

GRACEVILLE — The Tigers (3-0) kept their unbeaten streak in tact with a 32-0 victory over the Blue Devils (1-3).

Jeremiah Castro led Graceville with 179 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries, while Tanner Spooner was 5 for 5 for 81 yards passing and two touchdowns.

Xavian Sorey added a rushing touchdown, with Quavo Sorey catching four passes for 61 yards and a touchdown. Zachary Zuraff had a receiving touchdown as well.

Graceville plays host to Bozeman next week, while Holmes County hosts Northview.
