GAINESVILLE — The Gulf Coast men’s basketball team fell to Hillsborough 75-70 in the first of two games in the Florida JUCO Shootout.

Gulf Coast dropped to 8-4 with the loss, while Hillsborough improved to 9-3. The Hawks scored 50 points in the second half to erase a 10-point first-half deficit. The Commodores led 35-25 at halftime.

Walter Covington IV led the Hawks with 19 points, followed by Joshua Jackmon and Michael Cole with 16 each. Jacolbey Owens was the top scorer for the Commodores with 20 points, while Cameron Holden added 18 points and eight rebounds. KK Godwin also had 12 points, and Jerrel Kelly and Reggie Rivera each scored eight points.

Gulf Coast will finish its stay in Gainesville on Sunday with a game against ASA Miami.
