Lady Vikings win

The Fort Walton Beach Lady Vikings beat the Crestview Bulldogs 61-56 on the road Thursday evening.

High-point players for the Vikings were Tamia Cooper with 18 points, and former Destin Marlin Samantha Sherer with 15.

Up next for Fort Walton Beach is a 5:30 p.m. home game Monday against the South Walton Seahawks.

 

Ho Ho Hustle 5K/10K

Find your holiday happy and help out Toys for Tots at the Ho Ho Hustle 5K/10K on Saturday, Dec. 8.

The course is flat and fast and will take runners through downtown Fort Walton Beach and the surrounding area.

All participants will receive a long sleeve performance cotton T-shirt. Awards ceremony and after party will be held at KC's Sandbar, located just east of the finish line.

There will be awards for runners: Overall Male and Female, Master and Grandmaster. Male and female three deep in 5 year age groups.

Awards for 5K and 10K Walkers: Top 3 overall male and female.

Awards will be collector's edition Christmas ornaments, every year is a different ornament.

Packet pick up will be from 6:30 to 7:45 a.m. at The Landing on race day.

This is a rain or shine event.

 

Hurricane Michael Relief 5K

A Hurricane Michael Relief Run is set for 9 a.m., Dec. 15 in Fort Walton Beach.

The run, sponsored by Run With It and Props Brewery and Tap Room, will start at the brewery location at 125 Lovejoy Road and will be out and back through the neighborhood that is Lovejoy Road.

Entry fee is $25 until Dec. 9 and $30 on and after Dec. 10. Online registration closes on Dec. 12 at midnight, but individuals can still sign up in person at Run With It or on race day at the brewery. Race day fee is $35.

All 5K participants will receive an event T-shirt. Shirts are only guaranteed to participants registered one week prior to the event.

Packet pick up will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Dec. 14 at Props Brewery or on race day from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m.

Entry fees will include an after part at Props Brewery and Tap Room. This is a family friendly event, kids are welcomed. Stick around for fun and games like ping point, giant Jenga, cornhole and beer pong.

Proceeds from the event will be donated to those affected by the Hurricane Michael to the east.

 

Pickleball

Sessions for pickleball at Destin Community Center are Mondays from 10:30am until 1:30pm. Fee is $3 for non-residents and $2 for Destin (year-round) residents. Racquets and balls are available; just bring your gym shoes. For more information, call 654-5184.

 

Round the Bay Relay and Ultra

The eighth annual Round the Bay Relay and Ultra is scheduled for Dec. 29 starting at the Elks Lodge on Miracle Strip Parkway.

The Northwest Florida Track Club's 36.8 mile relay/ultra race begins on Okaloosa Island and traverses Destin, Bluewater Bay, Niceville, Shalimar and Fort Walton Beach before finishing at the Elks Lodge on Okaloosa Island. Beaches, bridges (seven), bayous and Choctawhatchee Bay will form the backdrop for much of the race.

Packet pickup will be located at The Island from 4:30-7 p.m. Dec. 28. A staggered start begins at 6:30 a.m. on Dec. 29 for relay teams, while ultra runners will start at 5, 5:30, 6 and 6:30 a.m. The start is designed to have all teams finished by 1 p.m. with a great post-race party at the Elks Lodge.

Table Tennis

Table Tennis at the Destin Community Center is available for spirited competition on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon.

Paddles and balls are provided. Fee is $3 for non-residents or $2 for Destin residents.

Capoeira classes are offered at the Destin Community Center on Thursdays at 7 p.m. for children and adults of all ages.

Capoeira is a Brazilian Martial Art that combines the elements dance, acrobatics and music.

Senior Walking Club

Join the Destin Senior Members for a walk around the Destin Community Center’s gymnasium on Monday-Friday from 8-9 a.m. All of the miles that you walk will be added to our “team map” as we travel from one region to the next.

The team’s miles are reported on the fourth Friday of each month at the Destin Senior Membership’s Potluck.
