Gadsden City improved to 2-0 on the girls high school basketball season with a 51-36 home victory over Sidney Lanier on Saturday.
Camille Jenkins led the balanced scoring attack for the Titans with 13 points. Tenise Johnson finished with 10 points. Tameah Gaddis helped out with eight points.
Gadsden City returns to play Thursday when it goes to Fort Payne.
Sidney Lanier 75, Gadsden City 73
Gadsden City dropped to 0-2 on the boys high school basketball season with a 75-73 loss to Sidney Lanier on Saturday.
The Titans had a chance late, but Dee Pearson's 3-pointer at the buzzer was no good.
Pearson paced Gadsden City with 34 points. Demetrius Huff had 14 points. Calvin Williams scored 10 points.
The Titans visit Fort Payne on Thursday.
Geraldine defeats Holly Pond 29-14
GERALDINE — Holly Pond couldn’t handle Bulldog running back Kyle Thackerson’s three touchdowns in the first half and Geraldine coasted past the Broncos 29-14 in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs Friday to earn its first postseason victory in six years.
The Bulldogs’ offense got off to a quick start by scoring 22 unanswered points in the first two quarters — all through Thackerson. The Broncos finally found their way to the end zone late in the first half, but Geraldine scored early in the third to pull away, though Holly Pond did get a late score to make it a bit closer.
Thackerson finished with 65 rushing yards and 48 receiving yards.
Next week, the Bulldogs, who moved to 9-2 with the victory, host Randolph County in the second round.
Pinson Valley routs Albertville 47-0
PINSON — Auburn quarterback commit Bo Nix tossed five touchdown passes for Pinson Valley while its swarming defense muzzled Albertville’s offense Friday night in a 47-0 triumph in the first round of the Class 6A state playoffs.
It was the second straight shutout for the Indian defense, which entered the contest surrendering only 11.9 points per game. The unit limited Albertville senior running back Jacob Dendy to 24 yards rushing.
The defending 6A state champion Indians (9-1) face Muscle Shoals in the second round. Albertville finished its season with a record of 6-5.
