Kiwanis Charity 5k

Now’s the time to register for the Kiwanis Charity 5k and enjoy this flat and scenic route through Fort Walton Beach on July 14. The awards party will be provided by Tom and Peggy Rice at Magnolia Grill on Brooks Drive.

Packet pickup on July 14 is 6 a.m. until 7:15 a.m. at the Landing. Race timing is provided by the Northwest Florida Track Club.

The race will begin at 7:30 a.m. followed by a children’s half-mile run at 8:30 a.m.

Proceeds from this race go to One Hopeful Place and Air Force Enlisted Village.

Coed Fall Softball League

The city of Destin's Coed Softball League will begin play on Aug. 29 at Morgan Sports Center.

A mandatory team captain's meeting will be held 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, at City Hall. Space is limited to the first 16 teams that register.

Team fee is $275 and must be paid before the team is placed on the schedule. The last day to register a team is Aug. 24. Individual fees are $20 for Destin residents and $40 for non-residents. Fees must be paid before a player is eligible to play. All players must be at least 17 to participate.

Topsail Hill Mosquito Dash 5K

Topsail Hill Preserve State Park, the Friends of the Topsail Hill Preserve State Park and the South Walton Mosquito control for Mosquito Dash, a 5K Fun Run/Walk is scheduled for 6:30-9 a.m. on July 28.

While on a paved trail through the park race participants will enjoy a beautiful view meandering through stations about mosquitoes and other insects and bugs. This is a true fun run with no times or bibs or chips or awards only costumes and fun.

Those running will start at 7:15 a.m., while walkers will start at 7:45 a.m. Race entrance fees are $5 for each participant. The first  300 race  participants will get a goodie bag. Costume contest results will be announced at 8:30 a.m. Advanced online registration is now available until July 27 at www.topsailparkfriends.org. Limited race day registration will be available on a first come first  serve basis between 6:30-7:45 a.m.

 

Baseball camp

The city of Destin will hold a baseball camp at Dalton Threadgill Little League Park from July 31 to Aug. 2

Campers ages 7-8 will be from 1-2:30 p.m. and ages 9-10 from 2:30-4 p.m.

Children will learn the fundamentals of baseball like hitting, fielding and throwing. Fee for the camp is $20 for Destin residents and $25 for non-residents.

Men's Recreation Softball League

The city of Destin's Men's Recreation Softball League will begin play Tuesday, Sept. 11 at Morgan Sports Center.

Alys Beach 5k

Registration is underway for the seventh annual Alys Beach 5k and 1 Mile Fun Run, underwritten by the Alys Foundation, to be held Sunday, Sept. 2.

The 5k route covers a scenic course along County Highway 30A that winds through the town and ends with an over-sized bounce house for kids, as well as music, food and beverages available in the amphitheater.

The 5k (3.1 miles) starts at 7 a.m., followed by the 1-mile run at 8:15 a.m. at 9581 East County Hwy. 30A.

Registration costs $35 for the 5k and $15 for the 1 Mile Fun Run (for children 12 and younger) and can be purchased in advance until Aug. 26 at alysbeach.com/5k.

Proceeds will benefit the Emerald Coast Children’s Advocacy Center, a nonprofit organization that provides services in a child-friendly environment to help identify, treat and support children in abusive situations.
