TAMPERE, Finland — Lauren Rain Williams heads into Saturday’s women’s 200-meter finals as the prohibitive favorite after running the fastest times in both opening rounds on Friday during Day 4 of the IAAF World Junior Track & Field Championships.

The Oregon freshman ran 22.98 seconds Friday morning to advance out of the first round and then posted a 23.15 in the semifinals.

The 200 finals are on Saturday at 5:05 a.m.

Incoming Oregon freshman Josh Hoey also won his first-round heat in the men’s 800 to advance. He finished in 1:48.86 and will run in the semifinals at 4:30 a.m. Saturday.

Oregon freshman Jasmin Reed ran the third leg on the U.S. women’s 4x100 team but was involved in a botched exchange during the semifinals with anchor Thelma Davies that resulted in a disqualification.
