SPOKANE — Eugene scored five runs in the top of the 11th inning to defeat Spokane 9-4 Thursday night.
The Emeralds improved to 10-17 while the Indians fell to 9-18 in the Northwest League baseball race.
Brennon Kaleiwahea started the 11th at second base under a new experimental rule in the minor leagues before Luis Vazquez put down a bunt single that moved Kaleiwahea to third base. Fernando Kelli bunted to score Kaleiwahea.
Clayton Daniel moved the runners up with a sacrifice before Luis Diaz hit a two-run single. Tyler Durna followed with a two-run home run.
Eugene took the lead with a run in the first inning when Daniel, Diaz and Durna hit consecutive singles.
The Indians scored two in the bottom of the first off Eugene starter Zach Mort after Jax Biggers singled and Disobel Arias followed with a home run.

Spokane went back ahead 4-3 in the fourth when reliever Faustino Carrera walked Cristian Inoa and Starling Joseph followed with a two-run homer.
Eugene tied the score with a run in the top of the fifth when Nelson Velazquez singled and stole second before scoring on a single by Gustavo Polanco.
