GRANTS PASS — Dane Woodcook doubled home the winning run with two outs in the top of the seventh inning Thursday to give the Eugene Challengers a 4-3 win over the Grants Pass Nuggets in the first game of an American Legion baseball doubleheader.

Grants Pass took the nightcap, 5-2. It was the second straight night the two teams split a league doubleheader.

In the opener, Lucas Jackson went the distance on the mound for the Challengers (19-15, 6-6 league), scattering 10 hits and striking out three while walking three.

Cal Morgan was 2-for-3 with a double for Eugene and Kellar Edwards was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

In the nightcap, Eugene had a 2-0 lead entering the bottom of the fourth inning, but the Nuggets scored four runs in the bottom of the inning to take control.

Edwards was 2-for-2 in the nightcap and Prestin White had a double and a run for Eugene.

Willamette Valley swept at Medford

MEDFORD — The Willamette Valley Titans were shut out in the opening game of an American Legion baseball doubleheader Thursday and then dropped the nightcap against the Medford Mustangs when the winning run scored on an error in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Medford swept Willamette Valley (12-15, 5-7) for the second straight night, winning 10-0 and 3-2.

Cade Bates went the distance on the mound for the Titans in the second game, allowing five hits and one walk while striking out three.

Trey Nelson and Tristan Vidal both had two hits to spark Willamette Valley's eight-hit attack.

In the opener, Bryce Boettcher and Wyatt Sayles had the only hits for the Titans.
