Republicans have been in control of the House since Jan. 3, 2013. They have been in control of both House and Senate since Jan. 3, 2015. So the GOP has been able to stop anything they did not like going back to 2013 or over five years ago. Since Trump was elected, Republicans have controlled the White House and Congress so they could pass anything they chose.
Many longtime Republicans have supported the GOP over the years believing it stood for conservative values like pay as you go, don't spend money you don't have, and a balanced budget. The problem for most Republicans is the last time the federal budget was balanced was under a Democrat, President Clinton.
Under Republican President Bush the federal budget went from billions in surplus to a trillion dollars per year deficit. The cause was two wars and two tax cuts that were not paid for but charged to the national debt. After that, Bush Republicans added the debt from a new Medicare Drug Act to the national debt. It took Republicans under President Obama eight years to cut the trillion dollar federal budget deficit in half.
But now in less than two years under Trump, Republicans appear to be on track to double the deficit back above a trillion with more unfunded tax cuts. The total national debt is around $21 trillion and raising to the highest level since World War II when the highest income tax rate was above 80 percent.
Conservatives always counted on the GOP to take a strong stand and protect America from attacks from its enemies. But now we find America has been victim of hacking attacks over and over. The U.S. has had its credit card companies hacked exposing 100 million Americans to identity theft and billions in credit card fraud. The U.S. government and defense contractors have been hacked stealing our military secrets. Now we have reports that Russia has also hacked our state election systems stealing even more I.D. information.
Why is the Republican Congress doing nothing to protect America from China and Russia and their hacking attacks?
