The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) was founded as a civil rights group. It began with good intentions, battling the KKK, neo-Nazis, etc. However, now it slanders people or groups it disagrees with! Its famous hate list falsely labels many well-respected faith-based organizations, ministries and conservative groups that support traditional values and/or conservative principles.
These false accusations are alarming! The SPLC’s vision of hate and extremism has infiltrated some military briefings. Personnel were told that evangelical Christians, Catholics, tea party participants and pro-lifers were a threat to America and not to contribute to pro-family groups! Some were shocked and felt their religious liberties were being taken away. In 2014 the FBI deleted the SPLC from its hate crime resources after 15 pro-family groups sent a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder and the FBI with their concerns. The letter pointed out how the hate list had a role in an act of violence against the Family Research Center (FRC) when a man shot a security guard employed by the FRC.
The SPLC’s lies are passed to the public as facts by organizations such as CNN, the AP, AmazonSmile, etc. Forty-seven conservative and faith-based organizations sent an open letter to the media to stop using the dangerous SPLC to smear them. One Christian ministry filed suit in federal court against the SPLC and Amazon for defamation and discrimination. Amazon uses the SPLC hate list to determine who can receive donations through the AmazonSmile program, resulting in Christian ministries being banned from this program. Dr. Ben Carson was even put on their list of extremists! He was removed after much public outrage. Dr. Carson said, “When embracing traditional Christian values is equated to hatred, we are approaching the stage where wrong is called right and right is called wrong.” When a former SPLC spokesman said, “Our aim in life is to destroy these groups, to completely destroy them,” it’s obvious the SPLC has turned in the wrong direction.
It has proven to be a politicized, unreliable source, focusing on enemies of the left rather than enemies of America!
