Etowah County investigators arrested a man for multiple burglaries and are hoping to return a large amount of property believed to have been stolen, according to Sheriff Jonathon Horton.
Investigators Will Farley said Michael Shane Green, 49, was arrested Monday and has been charged with three counts of third-degree burglary, first-degree receiving stolen property, second-degree theft, third-degree theft and three counts of third-degree receiving stolen property.
Those charges, along with a prior burglary charge, placed Green in jail on cash bonds totaling $220,000.
Farley said the arrest came after a neighbor reported a suspicious vehicle leaving a residence in the Coates Bend area.
“I was able to locate the vehicle in Walnut Park,” he said. He and investigator Shane Hartley did a “knock and talk” at the residence and were given permission to search.
They uncovered a large amount of stolen jewelry and other property, and have linked some of it back to eight burglary reports. One report came from Gadsden, one from Attalla and possibly one from Hokes Bluff. The rest, Farley said, occurred in Etowah County, between mid-August and this week.
Photos of recovered items have been made public, he said, in hopes that property owners will be able to identify their property and retrieve it.
Some property has been identified and returned. Anyone who recognizes property is asked to contact the sheriff’s office.
