Supplies are being collected for Blessings in a Backpack through a partnership with the Snead State Community College TRiO Program and the Boaz Church of God.
The Blessings in a Backpack program provides food items to children within the school system who face hunger. In many cases, the only meals the children receive each day are the ones they are served during school. The program offers items the children can easily prepare themselves during weekends and holidays when they aren’t in school.
As Thanksgiving break approaches, those looking to donate can consider foods that may be used for a Thanksgiving meal. That includes stove-top stuffing, cans of green beans, boxes of instant potatoes, cans of cranberry sauce, canned yams, boxes of macaroni and cheese, instant gravy mixes, cornbread mix, tea bags and bags of sugar.
Additional items needed include canned pastas, soups, Pop Tarts, individual servings of cereal, granola bars, instant oatmeal and grits, canned meats, individual Easy Mac and Cheese, Boxed and individual snacks, popcorn, chips, fruit cups, individual packs of crackers, jelly, juice, water, boxed meals and canned vegetables, amongst other items.
TRiO is collecting items through Nov. 19. Items can be dropped off at the TRiO offices located in the Bevill Center on Snead State’s Boaz campus.
All donations should be of non-perishable items. Out-of-date foods will not be accepted.
