Teams needed for fundraiser

Terrebonne Livestock Agricultural Fair Association will be hosting its Cast-Iron Cookoff in Houma Dec. 1 and is looking for cooking teams to compete.

Dishes will be judged in three categories, Seafood, Non-Seafood and Desserts, and must be cooked exclusively in cast-iron cookware. Prizes will be given to the first-place winners in each category and to the People's Choice winner.

There is a $75 entry fee per team. Deadline for entries is 5 p.m. Nov. 22. The cook-off will be held at 220 Moffet Road in Houma.

Nicholls Homecoming tailgate planned

The Nicholls State University Homecoming football game will be the venue for the school's Department of Mass Communication tailgate on Oct. 26.

Friends, family, alumni, students are invited to celebrate at the tailgate, which will begin at 12:30 p.m. Saturday when the Colonels host Abilene Christian. Kickoff will be at 3 p.m.

New Orleans festival features cheese

The New Orleans Jazz Museum will be the site of the 2019 Fête des Fromage cheese festival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Nov. 16.

The festival will be the only place in the country where you can taste more than 100 cheeses and meet two dozen cheesemakers from around the world. Enjoy unlimited cheese tastes alongside wine, beer and cocktails. Hang out on the lawn and listen to New Orleans' best bands or watch local chefs battle it out on stage in a cheese-cutting competition.

The $150 VIP ticket holders will enjoy early and exclusive festival access, a Cheese 101 class and a dedicated lounge with premium beverages, limited edition cheeses, swag and complimentary snacks.

Other cheese events will also take place at selected sites around the city.
