The low bid of $1,157,000 submitted by Boatner Construction for the Albertville Middle School construction was accepted at Tuesday’s monthly meeting of the Albertville City Schools’ Board of Education.

Also during the meeting Sign Language Interpreting Services was approved to provide interpretation to students as needed. The services will be paid for with IDEA funds not exceeding $100,000.

Further action taken by the board includes:

• The board approved entering into a purchasing consortium with Marshall County Schools to purchase supplemental groceries.

• AHS Senior Project Event Planning was approved to travel to Chattanooga Nov. 7 to the Aquarium to meet with the Aquarium event planners for a specialized tour.

• AMS eighth grade EL students (newcomers) were approved to travel to Chattanooga Nov. 21 to compare and contrast various typed OS aquatic and terrestrial wildlife as well as gain knowledge, vocabulary and experience the various animals.

• Eight items were declared surplus to be sold, including a 2000 GMC Sierra.

• Payroll clerk Caitlin Nelm was appointed to a one-year term on the sick leave bank committee, effective Oct. 1.

• The revised 2019-20 salary schedule was accepted effective Nov. 1.

• An amended contract agreement with Epic Communications for 2020-21 was approved.

• Personnel included five leaves, one retirement, one supplement resignation, two transfers, two employments and one other item.

Superintendent Boyd English also recognized AHS' FBLA group led by Stacy Turner. They competed in the state competition in April 2019, and 18 students qualified for nationals in San Antonio.
