PANAMA CITY — Before his death earlier this year, Johnny Campbell, a long time Bay County school administrator, set aside money from each retirement check to start a scholarship fund that would eventually help local students continue their education after high school. His dream came true as his wife, Ruby, and his friends from The Gents Inc. donated $20,000 to the Gulf Coast State College Foundation to create an endowed scholarship called the Johnny and Ruby Campbell Scholarship. Campbell was a teacher and counselor at Patterson Elementary, Glenwood Elementary and A.D. Harris. He was a counselor and administrator at Jinks Middle School until his retirement in 1994, and was a founding member of the Gents Inc., a civic club serving the Panama City area. The scholarship will be held in perpetuity with the Foundation and will help one student each year each year continue their education at GCSC.
