There is a new band trying to break into the local music scene, and they will be making their public debut on Saturday.
Front Reaux, a group of young performers, will play a very eclectic mix of covers at its first public show at The Balcony in Houma.
Ashleigh Comeaux, one of two female vocalists for the band and self-described "band mom," said that they have played a few private events but have never taken the stage together outside of those before.
"We're still trying to get our name out there at this point," Comeaux said.
The band members have all played in bands previously, and many have played together at some point. Front Reaux came into being when the members all played for other bands at a music festival in Raceland last year.
"A few of us got together afterward and discussed forming a wedding band," Comeaux said. "We've been practicing and learning stuff since November of last year."
What they have learned is quite a lot, as versatility will be one of the band's hallmarks.
"Bruno Mars, Journey, Shania Twain, Prince, we have a lot of different stuff," Comeaux said. "Stevie Wonder, Amy Winehouse, it just depends (on the gig)."
The band has already gone through some changes, as some of the original members have left for various non-musical reasons. The current lineup is Comeaux, Matthew Rhodes, Allie LeCompte, Brandon Boone, Brian Knight and Terrell Clark.
Comeaux said that despite the changes, the band's chemistry and rapport are its strengths.
"Music-wise, it's great," she said. "We all get along, we're very easy to work with. We're entertainers, we like to have fun, we joke, we like to make people laugh. We don't take ourselves seriously. It depends on what you're good at, and we're still trying to find what it is that sets us apart."
Front Reaux will have its coming-out party at The Balcony, 7834 Main St. in Houma, starting at 10 p.m.
