Thousands of dollars are flooding into Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes this year to support candidates in the state and parishwide races.
All candidates in the Oct. 12 elections were required to file campaign finance reports with the state ethics board by Thursday, 30 days before the primary election.
The filings detail all contributions, loans and expenses through Sept. 2.
Terrebonne Parish President Gordy Dove has out-raised his opponent by more than nine and a half times, pulling in over $155,000 in private contributions, none of which came from political committees.
David McCormick, Dove’s sole challenger, raised just over $16,000.
McCormick has sought to be a voice for the “common man,” hoping to represent the political outsiders of the parish. He also put up $5,000 of his own money toward his campaign.
In Lafourche Parish, the three parish president candidates raised nearly $100,000 combined. Luci Sposito is leading the pack at just over $61,000, almost double that of her closest opponent, Archie Chaisson, at $33,000. Joe Fertitta reported much lower contributions, right at $4,500.
Lafourche judicial candidate Marla Abel raised more than double of her closest competitor, pulling in over $81,000 from dozens of donors, many of whom work in the legal field.
She was followed by Todd Joffrion at $39,000 and Rene Gautreaux at $21,000
Two area candidates reported zero contributions, House District 51 candidate Clayton Voisin and Senate District 2 candidate Troy Brown.
The following list is the amount of private contributions made to each candidate’s personal campaign fund, according to filings with the state ethics board. The totals do not include personal loans to their campaigns.
