It has been a busy summer getting ready for a big event at Destin United Methodist Church.

The 11th year of the Destin United Methodist Women’s Fall Flair Arts and Craft Show is going to be bigger than ever this year.

"Excitement is in the air as Thanksgiving and Christmas will be just around the corner," said DUMW member Jane Carron in a press release. "Come and get started on your shopping list. The little elves have been making unique items just for you."

Fall Flair will be held in the Life Center at DUMC, 200 Beach Drive, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 20 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 21. Funds raised will go to church missions.

"It is a later date with different hours on Friday to please requests from vendors," Patty Roof, event coordinator, told The Log. "We keep striving to achieve wishes that they put on their evaluation sheets."

Vendors include many who have been exhibiting their crafts since the beginning of the Fall Flair. Some of those who will return this year are Lisa Sutton, Gladys Haney, Kay White, Marianna Doing, Sylvia Jenkins, Terri Stitt, Dawn Garrity, Janice Chappell,  Flutterby Uniques by Ron Sanstead, Mary Ann Bishop, Alda and Morris Stevens, Dianne Carpenter, Roger and Priscilla Bonjour, Ron and Carol Scott, Glenda Flick, and Renda Weilder.

Patty Roof, Dottie Alex, Becky Garrett, Renda Weilder and Angie Wilson have formed Emerald Coast Pourers and will have a booth at the Fall Flair. Acrylic Fluid Art can be as simple as pouring paint on a canvas, but it can be so much more.

"It's a form of abstract art that is multilayered and multidimensional," Roof said. "It's an art form that requires the careful planning of colors and techniques to achieve beautiful and colorful results. It's simple, it's complex, it's colorful and a beautiful expression of art. No two (are) identical."

Mel Ponder, mayor of Destin from 2014-2016 and now serving in the Florida House of Representatives for the 4th District, has given the opening prayer at Fall Flair for many years. This year the pastor of Destin United Methodist Church, Dr. Barry Carpenter, will give the prayer on Friday to open the event and Ponder will open the event Saturday.
