A 30-year-old Thibodaux man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of a Larose woman whose body was found in a sugarcane field in December, authorities said.

Kyron Bourda is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 44-year-old Rani Pinel, the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office said.

Authorities said Pinel was last seen on the afternoon of Dec. 17. She reportedly told her father she had gone to Texas to attend a funeral, the Sheriff's Office said.

After her family reported Pinel missing on Dec. 22, detectives found her body in her father’s truck in a sugar cane field a few hundred feet from Lasseigne Road, authorities said.

The victim had suffered “severe trauma” to her body, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Through investigation, detectives developed Bourda as a suspect, the Sheriff’s Office said. He was arrested for an unrelated matter on Dec. 7 and was charged with violating parole. He was later transferred to a Department of Corrections facility to serve time for the parole violation, authorities said.

The suspect was then transported to the Lafourche Parish jail Thursday, where he was booked on the murder charge. He is being held without bail.
