FORT WALTON BEACH — An Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office deputy reporting to a call about loud music and "children running around" Saturday discovered a child's birthday party in full swing.
The call came in at 9:15 p.m. from a neighborhood off Carmel Drive.
Deputy Misty Piaget didn't tell the children to quiet down or stay still.
Instead she told the birthday girl, a 7-year-old named Alondra, to have a happy birthday. Piaget then posed with the children in front of her patrol car.
"No birthday would be complete without a tour of an OCSO patrol vehicle and high fives," the Sheriff's Office reported on its Facebook page.
Commenters loved the story and the deputy's response.
"Happy birthday Alondra, and thank you officer for being a good role model," one wrote. "Perhaps in time one of these little ladies will follow in your footsteps.
"The right officer at the right time at the right place."
