Utility workers found a dead body on the edge of the University of Alabama campus Wednesday afternoon.
Investigators will check missing persons reports and send the body to Montgomery for an autopsy.
The decomposed remains were discovered just before 3 p.m. near the Ed Love Treatment plant off Campus Drive and near Jack Warner Parkway.
Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit commander Lt. Jack Kennedy said the body was located in a wooded area.
"The location was not near any dorms, buildings, or other areas that most persons would associate with the university," he said. "Initial investigation has not found any reason to believe that there is any danger or threat to the University of Alabama campus or surrounding area."
Further information will be released as it becomes available, he said.
