A suspect was charged with his fourth DWI following a traffic stop in Golden Meadow, police said.

In addition to the DWI, Tracy Shackelford, 42, of Golden Meadow, is charged with four contempt-of-court warrants and driving with a suspended license, Golden Meadow Police Chief Reggie Pitre said.

Just before 11 p.m. Sunday, police initiated a traffic stop on Shackelford’s vehicle, which was traveling 60 mph in a 50 mph zone, police said. The officer smelled alcohol on Shackelford’s breath and saw an open container of alcohol inside the vehicle, police said.

After performing poorly on a field sobriety test, Shackelford refused to submit to a breath test, police said. The officer obtained a warrant to have the suspect’s blood tested, and those results are pending, police said.

Shackelford’s license had been suspended due to a previous DWI charge, police said. He’s had three prior DWI convictions since 2016.

The suspect was booked into the Lafourche Parish jail, where he’s being held on a $52,400 bond. He was also ordered to pay $619 in fines and costs, police said.
