ALBERTVILLE — The Albertville City Council following public hearings on Monday annexed property at 271 and 276 H.T. Greer Road into the city limits and vacated a portion of Brown Street located off Wagner Drive.

At the request of Police Chief Jamie Smith, the retirement of K-9 officer Syrus (“Sy”) was approved, allowing him to remain with his handler Cory Morgan.

Purchasing Director Mike Brewer was authorized to solicit bids for yearly use items to include street resurfacing, street striping, concrete/plastic pipe, rock, sand, uniforms, grease/oil, off road diesel, gasoline and diesel fuel.

Two 2010 Ford Crown Victorias were declared surplus to be disposed of by the purchasing director.

The council granted four hours’ vacation to city employees who donate blood at the annual Albertville vs. Boaz blood drive to be held Sept. 24-25 at the Depot.

Public hearings were set for Oct, 7 to hear a request from Paul Abrahams to rezone property at 417 S. Broad St. from R-2 to R-3 and from Clark Garrett to rezone property along Alabama Highway 75 North from R-2 to R-3.

Sept. 30 was proclaimed as Family Day with the Alabama Family Rights Association as the sponsor.
