Taste of Cherokee 2019 will be held Tuesday in the arena at Gadsden State-Cherokee.
The buffet line will open at 5:30 p.m. and the program will start at 6. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at the Chamber of Commerce office during the day or at the door after 5 p.m.
More than 30 food service establishments will serve samples of their specialties. The Cherokee County High School marching band will perform the National Anthem as well as several familiar tunes during the event.
The Cherokee County Firefighters Honor Guard will present the colors as a prelude to the audience’s recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance. A ringing of a large brass bell will honor the first responders who lost their lives or were injured in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Current first responders and military veterans also will be saluted.
Taste of Cherokee proceeds support the maintenance of the Avenue of Flags which is displayed along Veterans Memorial Drive (U.S. Highway 411) from Leesburg to Centre.
More than 460 American flags —-each in memory of an area military veteran — are displayed during each patriotic holiday (including Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Patriots Day, Columbus Day and Thanksgiving, when weather permits). 2019 is the 41st year of the Avenue of Flags in Cherokee County.
