A free, five-part series that aims to educate parents about substance abuse issues among youth will begin Wednesday.

The first of the "Drug U — Parent Sessions" will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bryant Bank, 1901 University Blvd. The topic will be vaping and nicotine addiction.

Registration for the event is available at www.eventbrite.com. A light meal will be available and the session will end by 7 p.m.

The sessions are organized by Pride of Tuscaloosa, a nonprofit agency that educates parents, students, and community about the abuse of alcohol and drugs. 

Here's the schedule of topics for the rest of the series:

• Sept. 18: Marijuana

• Sept. 25: Prescription drugs, opioids and synthetic drugs

• Oct. 2: Alcohol and methamphetamines

• Oct. 9: Signs of use, stories of recovery and tips on how to avoid the trap of addiction
