Local women are invited to leave their husbands and kids at home, grab a group of their girlfriends and spend the evening shopping local during the Girl’s Night Out event on Thursday.

Sponsored by Downtown Gadsden Inc., the annual event features a number of downtown businesses staying open late to give women a chance to shop local.

“We invite people to come down and eat and shop with us,” said Kay Moore, marketing manager at DGI.

In addition to finding special deals at unique stores, shoppers also will have chances to win a gift basket with $200 or more in prizes. Visiting a participating store earns one chance to register, but making a purchase at the store gives you two chances.

Moore said the drawing for the prize will be held on Friday and will consist of gift certificates for some of the same downtown businesses participating in the event. She added that shopping local supports other locals who own and operate those businesses.

“When you shop local, it all comes back to your community,” she said.

Participating stores include Alabama Gift Company, Blings N’ Things, Jazz It Up, King’s Olive Oil, LauraLee’s on Broad, Lookout Mountain Goat Ranch Originals, Nancy’s Plant Shop, Rococo Floral Studio, Small Things Market, The Stone Market and Taming of the Ewe Yarn and Tea.

Girl’s Night Out event will run until 8 p.m. on Thursday. For more information, visit the Downtown Gadsden page on Facebook.
