A new bus and driver are expected to be added to Lafourche Parish School District's fleet to accommodate 140 additional students who need to be transported to elementary school.

With the completion of the new Bayou Blue Upper Elementary School, fifth-grade students who were attending Bayou Blue Middle School have shifted to a different time.

The new bus will be used in the Bayou Blue area and cost $9,600 per year.

On Aug. 28, the School Board Transportation Committee voted unanimously to recommend that the full board approve the addition after a lengthy discussion about the number of buses that have broken down and required repair since school started Aug. 8.

The request will come before the board during its regular meeting Wednesday.

The new administration building at Bayou Blue Elementary School and the construction of the new Bayou Blue Upper Elementary School down the road have been substantially completed. Both projects reached that point just before school started this year.

The agenda for the board meeting was to be posted on the school district's website by today.

The meeting will start at 7 p.m. in the central office, 805 E. Seventh St. in Thibodaux.
