An overturned 18-wheeler at the intersection of Alabama Highway 77 and Cedar Bend Road South detoured traffic for a few hours Thursday morning, but the way was cleared at about 11:30 a.m.

The 18-wheeler was traveling northbound on when it overturned at the interesction of Cedar Bend Road South and ended up on its side in a yard. Southside Assistant Police Chief Phil Roberson said the driver was transported to a local hospital following the crash.

Southside firefighters, with the assistance of the Rainbow City Fire Department, were able to control the spill of diesel fuel from the truck.

The trailer was loaded with crushed vehicles. Wreckers from local companies, and one from Talladega, responded to help set the truck upright.

Police directed traffic at several point along Alabama Highway 77 to detour vehcles around the crash site until the truck could be moved.
