The Humane Society Pet Rescue and Adoption Center wants to make it easy to match furry friends with forever homes by waiving all adoption fees Saturday for cats and dogs.

“For one day, we’re waiving adoption fees,” Marketing Director Jessica Millican said. “We have 60 cats and 50 dogs available for adoption.”

They will be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The savings for pet rescuers will be substantial; Millican said it usually costs $100 to adopt. But for the Humane Society staff and board of directors, the effort is about getting animals into loving homes.

The pets available have all been vetted and are ready to go, Millican said.

Potential adopters can get equally ready by going online at the Humane Society website at http://www.hsprac.com/adopt to fill out an application in advance. Millican asked that people bring their vet records with them when they come to meet with an adoption counselor Saturday.

Summers usually bring an influx of animals to the shelters, and Millican said this year was no exception.

“Clear the Shelter” is a national Humane Society event, she said, and the HSPRAC has applied to be a part of it. Even though that is not official, she said the board decided to go ahead with the local event.

All the pets have been spayed and neutered, Millican said.

“We’d love for them all to be adopted,” she said.
