A witness told police a Gadsden man stepped out in front of a vehicle and was struck, thrown into the other lane of traffic and struck by another vehicle early Wednesday morning, according to Gadsden Police Sgt. John Hallman.

The collisions occurred at about 12:30 a.m. on West Meighan Boulevard, in the area of Kyle Avenue and Black Creek Road.

The 50-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, Hallman said. Police did not identify the victim because it’s not certain that family members have been notified.

The witness told police the man stepped in front of vehicle traveling westbound on Meighan Boulevard, and apparently when he was hit, he was thrown into the eastbound lane of traffic where he was struck by another vehicle.

Hallman said the Traffic Homicide Unit continues to investigate the incident. Both drivers remained at the scene and cooperated fully with the investigation.
