DESTIN — Coastal Cravings of Destin is putting a gourmet twist on the food truck trend.

The aroma of pizza dough baking inside a wood-fired oven should make any belly rumble. Foodies hoping for high-end seafood at food truck prices, however, may be in for an extra treat.

Gourmets themselves, Justin and Brittany Davis said they fell in love over their love of food years ago while working together at a local restaurant. The married chefs parked Coastal Cravings in front of the Destin Brewery Friday, where they served up signature dishes like their $13.50 crab delight — a white sauce pizza with crab cake, drizzled in remoulade.

"We have so many events in this area like wine tastings and art festivals, this seemed like the best venture instead of opening an actual restaurant," Brittany said. "It's more fun. You get to communicate with your customers and really see their smiles."

"We wanted to keep it local," Justin chimed in. "We really loved the fusion of seafood and pizza."

After Justin's mom passed away recently, the couple was even more determined to open the truck, they said. It was his mom's dream, Justin explained, for him to have a business of his own.

"She always wanted me to open a catering business or something on those lines," Justin said. " It feels great to be here now. I couldn't have done it without her."

The Davises said they plan to continue creating recipes, so the menu will expand and change often.

Items currently on the menu include $11 fish tacos with chips and salsa, $12.75 truffle mushroom and prosciutto pizza, $9 hot wings and $4.50 bread pudding with a porter glaze.

The food truck plans to park at the Destin Brewery, at 505 Mountain Drive, Thursday through Saturday. Coastal Cravings will announce its other temporary locations on its Facebook page.

"We love being at the Destin Brewery," Justin said. "Pizza and beer go hand in hand. They have the beer and we have the food."
