An Englewood Elementary School student was killed in a weekend hunting accident in Dallas County.

Authorities said the boy, 11, was shot while hunting in an area near Orrville on Sunday.

The Alabama Department of Fish and Wildlife is investigating.

Tuscaloosa County School System spokeswoman Terri Brewer said additional counselors were at the school to speak with members of the student's fifth grade class and other students Monday morning.

According to Dallas County Coroner Alan Dailey, the boy's older sister found him dead Sunday in a shooting house used by hunters in the town of Orrville west of Montgomery.

Dailey said the siblings and other family friends had spent the day on land the family leases for hunting. He says the boy had left the group and gone into the shooting house alone with his rifle hours before his body was found.
