The West Alabama Quilters Guild honored Hallie O'Kelley, one of its most renowned members, at the unveiling of a representation of her 1996 quilt "October Glory" in Government Plaza Saturday. The group of more than 100 men and women raised the more than $5,000 needed to create the installation.

O'Kelley's quilt is part of the growing number of displays of public art around the city.

Numerous examples of O’Kelley’s work and craft can be found throughout her 1996 book “Screen-Printing for Quilters."

For decades, O’Kelley hand-printed the Kentuck Festival of the Arts posters, each time a different pattern; more lately, she’s made individualized quilts for the October event. A couple of her quilts have been in the permanent collection of the Museum of the American Society in Paducah, Kentucky, and she’s entered and won numerous prizes from international juried shows.
