NICEVILLE — A 35-year-old man was charged with retail theft after stealing more than $60 of merchandise from Walmart.

A Walmart asset protection associate contacted the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office about a theft that had just occurred.

A man walked through the store putting various items in a shopping cart. He then walked to the Subway restaurant at the front of the store and bought a drink. Then he walked toward the exit without paying for the items in his cart.

The associate was able to stop the man and take him into the loss prevention office. But since there was a high volume of thefts that day, the Sheriff’s Office advised that they let him go and they would apply for a warrant.

A little while later, someone called about a suspicious person in the parking lot of Bargain Box. It was the same man who stole from Walmart. The deputy questioned him about the Walmart theft and he admitted to stealing the items.

The man said his father had bought the same items the day before. He planned on stealing the items, taking his father’s receipt, and attempting to return the items later to get money.
