A 16-year-old boy was charged Tuesday in connection to a shooting last week in Belle Rose that left a victim hospitalized, authorities said.

On Thursday, detectives responded to a local hospital after being notified that a victim was being treated for a gunshot wound to the face, the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office said.

After conducting an investigation, detectives learned the victim was shot in the face after an argument in the Frank Lane area off of La. 308, the Sheriff’s Office said. Detectives interviewed witnesses and recovered evidence from the scene.

Following an investigation, authorities charged the juvenile with attempted second-degree murder, authorities said. The teenager turned himself in on Tuesday.

The teenager is being held at a juvenile detention facility pending court proceedings, authorities said.
