Meridian, Miss. — Tuscaloosa Academy completed its regular season finishing fifth in the 12-team field at the Lamar Invitational Monday held at Northwood Country Cub, shooting a 333. Tuscaloosa Academy was led by Logan Harris’ 78, followed by a pair of 83s from Harrison Howell and William Beeker. Walt Denney shot 89. Jackson (MS) Academy won the team event shooting 316. Tuscaloosa Academy will compete in the AISA State Championship in Troy from April 23-24.

Winfield 14,

Hamilton 6

Winfield knocked off Hamilton in a high-scoring affair Monday afternoon. Alanna Ballard pitched a complete game, striking out three, and gave up nine hits and three walks.

For the Lady Pirates batters, Andrea Harbin paced the offense with a home run, a double, a single, and two RBIs.

As for other multiple hitters, Breanna Ray also had a home run to go with a double and two RBIs, Ballard had a single, a double, and five RBIs, Sarah Cotton had two singles and two RBIs, and Tralee Couch had a bunted single, a single, and an RBI.

Winfield (18-7) takes the field next at Oakman on Tuesday.

 

Lamar County County 12,

Northridge 2

Pitchers for both teams played a complete game as Lamar County run-ruled Northridge Monday night.

For Lamar County, Savanna Thomas was the winning pitcher and gave up five hits and one walk. Abby Stephens, A.K. McDaniels and Lindsey Johnson all led the team in hits with three.

For the Jaguars, Sydney Savage was the losing pitcher and gave up 12 hits, three walks and struck out one. For the Northridge bats, Annabelle Beavers had a two-run double, and Savage, Lauren Seawell and Mary Margaret Wilson all had one hit.

Northridge (9-22) plays next on Tuesday against Sipsey Valley.

 

High school girls soccer

Hillcrest 9,

Holt 0

Hillcrest shut out Holt in a Monday evening match that had two multiple goal scorers for the Patriots. Kristavia Dozier finished with a hat trick, and Kerstyn Nece chipped in two goals. Avery Vasquez, Avery Williams, Amberlyn Ratliff and Holly McDonough all scored one goal each. Hillcrest (6-5) faces Sipsey Valley next on Thursday.

Holt 0

Kenneh Topka scored four of Hillcrest’s five goals as they shut out Holt Monday. Topka was recognized by MaxPreps as the state of Alabama’s soccer player of the week for March 26th-April 1st. Morris Cochran added in the fifth goal.

Tyler Frith, Jarred Sturgis, Joel Ramirez, Caleb Nalls and Landon Beatty all had an assist for the Patriots.

Jeremey Douds had five saves to complete the shutout for Hillcrest.

Hillcrest (6-3) plays next at home against Sipsey Valley Tuesday.

Holy Spirit 19,

Holt 0

Holy Spirit routed Holt Monday in what was their final regular season game that went five innings.

Braden Cameron was the winning pitcher for the Saints, pitching three innings, giving up one hit, zero runs, two walks and striking out five.

At the plate for Holy Spirit, Matthew Mulanix went 2-4, had two RBIs, and two runs scored on his Senior Night. Sam Contorno and Sam Kornegay each led the Saints in hits with three, with Contorno scoring three runs, six RBIs, two doubles, a triple and was walked. Kornegay scored three runs, had two RBIs, hit a double and was hit by a pitch. Other multiple hitters for Holy Spirit were Jeremy Boler, who was 2-4 with an RBI and a walk, and Wes Kinard who was 2-2, hit a double, an RBI and scored two runs.

The losing pitcher for Holt was DJ Robertson.

Holy Spirit (12-5) opens up the class 1A playoffs at Marion County Friday with a double header. Holt (3-14) concludes their season Tuesday at West Blocton.

 

Tuscaloosa Christian 30,

First Assembly 6

Tuscaloosa exploded for a 30 point run Monday night as they routed First Assembly in five innings.

Dax Chandler led the way for the Warriors in hits, going 5-6, hit four singles and a triple scored five runs and had five RBIs. Derrick Johns was 4-5 with two triples, a double, a single scored four runs and had five RBIs, and Caleb May was 3-5 with two singles, a triple four RBIs and scored three runs.

Mickey Suttle picked up the win for Tuscaloosa Christian pitching three innings, striking out two and giving up two hits and four walks.

Tuscaloosa Christian (7-9) plays next at Meadowview Christian in Selma on Tuesday.

 

High school tennis

Northridge high school hosted the Class 6A Section 3 Girls tennis tournament Monday. The eight-team tournament saw competition at six singles positions and three doubles positions. Northridge and Hillcrest were the top two teams and will compete next Monday and Tuesday in Montgomery for the state championship. The hosting Jaguars finished with 58 points followed by Hillcrest with 43, and Helena with 26.
