The Books-A-Million at at 1539 Martin Luther King Blvd. in Houma is closing its doors Saturday.

The last large-scale bookstore in the Houma-Thibodaux area is closing for unknown reasons, store co-manager Brooke Martin said.

The parent company plans to open a 2nd&Charles in the old Burkes Outlet location at 1550 Martin Luther King Blvd. on May 12, Martin said.

2nd&Charles sells new books and offers a trade-in program for books, games, movies and music.

The store has a lot of the same merchandise as Books-A-Million, but the trade-in program offers cash or double store credit, Martin said.

Customers can sell a book to the store for $5 in cash or receive $10 in store credit.

Other locations of the store have opened in Covington and Bossier City.

The new 2nd&Charles will not include a Joe Muggs Cafè, Martin said.
