A Tuscaloosa man will likely lose sight in one eye after someone threw an unknown chemical on his face during a fight early Wednesday morning, according to police.
The victim, 29, was airlifted to UAB for treatment, said Capt. Kip Hart, Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit assistant commander. Hunter Ryan Washburne, 21, has been charged with first-degree assault in connection with the attack.
Hart said the victim was leaving Washburne’s home in the 400 block of 26th Street East around 1:30 a.m. when he turned back to retrieve his cellphone.
A fight ensued, Hart said, and Washburne threw an unknown chemical substance on the victim's face.
He suffered burns to the left side of his face, and is expected to lose vision in his left eye, Hart said.
Washburne was being held Wednesday in the Tuscaloosa County Jail with bond set at $30,000.
