Paul W. Bryant seniors Jared Sherfield and Dylan Robertson will compete in the 28th annual Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Basketball Classic at Mississippi College’s A.E. Wood Coliseum on Friday at 7 p.m. The girls game tips off at 5 p.m.
Sherfield and Robertson, members of Alabama’s 12-team roster, helped lead the Stampede to a Class 6A, state runner-up finish this season and a Class 6A state championship as juniors. Sherfield will continue his career at Tennessee Tech and Robertson will play for Wingate University.
Among the seniors selected to represent Alabama is University of Alabama signee Diante Wood of Sacred Heart. The boys team is coached by Plainview’s Robi Coker.
Alabama leads the boys’ series, 14-13, and Mississippi leads the girls’ series, 14-13. Mississippi swept last year’s games held at Alabama State University’s Dunn-Oliver Acadome. The boys team won 96-91, and the girls won 93-86.
Alabama freshman Herb Jones, a Hale County graduate, was named last year’s Alabama MVP.

Hale County senior Savanna Holmes, an Auburn University at Montgomery signee, pitched a no-hitter in a six-inning, 7-0 victory over Lamar County at Gordo on Saturday.
She struck out five batters and walked four.
Tuscaloosa Christian’s Sara Crawford and Anna Suttle combined for a no-hitter in a 15-0 victory over First Assembly last week.
Crawford, the winning pitcher, struck out four batters in three innings, and Suttles pitched the final inning as the Warriors improved to 6-0.
The Central girls 4x400 meter relay team set a record at the Vestavia Hills King of the Mountain Meet on Saturday with a time of 4:05.60. The previous record was set in 2014 by Hoover (4:08.67).
The Falcons also set a Class 4A/5A indoor state track championships record with a time of 4:07.53 in February.
The Northridge boys finished runner-up out of the 20-team field at Vestavia Hills. Northside boys finished eighth, Central boys were 10th and Hillcrest finished 15th.
The Northridge girls finished fifth and the Central girls placed sixth. Hillcrest finished 10th.
Hoover won both the girls and the boys meet.
The Greensboro relays is set for Friday, and eight West Alabama teams are listed to attend, including host Greensboro, Aliceville, Bibb County, Demopolis, Francis Marion, Linden, Pickens County and Sumter Central.
