A 14-game winning streak
The Port St. Joe Jr./Sr. High School girls’ basketball team extended its win streak to 14 games en route to the District 4-1A championship last week.
The Lady Tiger Sharks, now 25-2 overall, host Chipley 7 p.m. ET tonight in a Region 2-1A semifinal.
The teams have played twice this season, Port St. Joe winning bother, 44-29 at Chipley Dec. 11 and 40-17 five days later in the Gulf County Classic.
The Port St. Joe-Chipley winner will face the winner of Bozeman at Baker for the region title Tuesday.
If Bozeman wins tonight, the game will be in Port St. Joe; if Baker wins it will host the game
Port St. Joe 54, Franklin County 12
The Lady Tiger Sharks, the district’s top seed, jumped to a 12-4 first quarter lead before scoring the next 23 points of the half on the way to a berth in the title game at Bozeman.
Teiyahna Hutchinson led Port St. Joe with 16 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Jae Lenox had 15 points, two rebounds, four assists and two steals and Brooklyn Quinn also scored in double figure with 13 points and added five assists and five steals.
Mimi Larry chipped in seven points and three rebounds, Aliyah Johnson two points and three rebounds and Te-Te Croom a point and two rebounds.
Port St. Joe 55, Bozeman 23
Wearing the former Washington High School uniforms (thanks to Principal Josh Dailey, AD Greg Jordan and Superintendant Jim Norton for allowing wearing the uniforms for Black History Month), Port St. Joe jumped to a 13-1 first-quarter lead which buldged to 29-8 by intermission.
Playing great defense the Lady Tiger Sharks stifled Bozeman to just 15 points the rest of the way, five of those coming from the foul line.
Hutchinson exploded for 32 points and stuffed the stat sheet with nine rebounds, four assists, seven steals and one blocked shot.
Larry added eight points, five rebounds, two assists, two steals, Quinn seven points, 10 rebounds, eight assists, four steals and a block.
A. Johnson chipped in four points, three rebounds and two steals, Lenox had two points, two rebounds and two assists and Croom added two points, six rebounds and two steals.
