TALLAHASSEE — In the past week, flu activity decreased slightly statewide, though still remaining higher than peak levels in past flu seasons, according to a weekly update from the Florida Department of Health.

Bay County appears to have begun its decline, though the county remains one of 38 with moderate flu activity. Suwannee and Putnam counties are the only counties in the state reporting elevated activity in week 6.

Nationally, DOH reported, influenza activity continued to increase and was well above the national baseline.

People at high-risk for complications from influenza infection, such as children, adults aged 65 years and older and pregnant women, continued to be most affected.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention continues to recommend the use of antiviral treatment as soon as possible.
