Holiday Garbage Collection: The City of Gadsden Sanitation Department will observe the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday. Monday’s garbage route will be collected on Tuesday, Tuesday’s route will be collected on Wednesday, and Thursday and Friday routes will be collected as usual. Southern Rock Cares: Gadsden-based cancer outreach group Southern Rock Cares has a charity roadblock from 9 a.m. into the afternoon Feb. 3 at entrances to the Gadsden Mall, 1001 Rainbow Drive. The organization uses money raised to help local cancer patients with anything from purchasing medication to paying their utility bills. Representatives will be at the main entrance to the mall on Rainbow Drive, as well as the side entrance next to Chick-Fil-A and the former Flipside Café, collecting money for their cause. Lookout Mountain Honey Bees’ 2018 Beginning Beekeepers Class starts Jan. 18 and takes place weekly on Thursdays through March 1. The field day will be March 10. The cost is $135 per person or $175 per couple. This includes books, folders, handouts, food and drinks each week, door prizes each week, grand prize of complete beehive kit and field day cost. Field day is open to the public. The cost is $50, which includes lunch, drinks, snacks and handouts. The class is limited to 20 people.
