A 48-year-old Galliano man was killed after an SUV turned in front of his motorcycle this morning on La. 1 near Octavia Street in Larose, State Police said.

The Lafourche Parish Coroner's Office pronounced Smokey Rogers dead on scene, Trooper First Class Jesse LaGrange said in a news release. Troopers responded to the crash shortly before 10 a.m.

LaGrange said Rogers was driving south on a 2004 Honda when 70-year-old Deanna Compeaux, of Larose, made a left turn onto Octavia Street. She was driving north in a 2012 Nissan Rogue.

The motorcycle hit the passenger side of the SUV, LaGrange said. Acadian Ambulance transported Compeaux, who was wearing a seat belt, to Ochsner St. Anne Hospital in Raceland with minor injuries.

LaGrange said Rogers was wearing a helmet that was not compliant with Department of Transportation standards. Investigators don't suspect impairment, but routine toxicology tests are pending for both drivers.
