In 1996, I moved to England so my daughter would be in a safer environment. I know there are terrorist attacks within the United Kingdom and the United States, but my daughter has been able to walk to school and attend university and feel safe in the UK.

In 1991, a citizen who owned a handgun left it in an unsafe area, causing my 11-year-old son to be shot and paralyzed.

I am back in Alabama and things have gotten so much worse. I see that an individual can buy a bump stock that will allow a person to fire so quickly that he can kill 59 citizens and wound more than 500 in nine minutes while they are doing nothing but attending a concert.

The National Rifle Association can buy the votes of our politicians, sell lies to the American people and hide behind the Constitution for the sake of money to line their coffers, to the detriment of citizens. I believe in the right to own a weapon but the NRA doesn’t stop there. When rights of individuals take away the right of human beings to be safe and healthy something is wrong.

I won’t attend concerts and I will avoid public crowds because I don’t believe it is safe, which is a very poor statement to make about the state that I was born in.

Let’s tell our representatives to ban bump stocks. It's the least we can do for the victims of Las Vegas.
